Adafruit was founded in 2005 by MIT engineer, Limor "Ladyada" Fried. Adafruit has expanded in the last 10 years to over 100 employees in the heart of NYC with a 50,000 + sq ft. factory. Adafruit has expanded its offerings to include tools , equipment, and electronics that are personally selected, tested, and approved by Limor prior to entering Adafruit. Adafruit is a production company owned by 100 per cent of women, and a certified Minority and Woman-owned Business Enterprise (M / WBE). MADE IN NYC: Adafruit manufactures many of products in NYC factory. From designing PCBs, to loading the pick and place machines. Printing, soldering, testing, debugging, and more, the Adafruit production line allows to come up with new ideas and get them to customers in a matter of weeks. Over 3 years Adafruits pick and place machine produced more than 3 million boards! Many of Adafruit 's shows and videos are created and broadcast live from the NYC plant, in addition to their product manufacturing. ENGINEERED BY ADAFRUIT: Adafruit founder and lead developer Limor Fried is collaborating with a team of talented innovative developers to create community-driven products and code. The Adafruit Feather (released in 2015), for example, is a complete line of over 100 products including development boards and accessories. In 2017, Adafruit launched their own branch of MicroPython, the coding language CircuitPython, intended to simplify experimentation and education on low-cost microcontrollers.
